(FBOP) - On February 1, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) will open a Day Reporting Center (DRC) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hawaii has been without reentry services since 2019. The DRC will provide non-residential reentry services for individuals returning to Hawaii who have a viable home plan, transportation, and who are statutorily eligible for home confinement. These services will be provided by Dismas Charities while maintaining appropriate accountability, security, and safety. The Residential Reentry Management Office in Sacramento, California will supervise the operations of the DRC.
The FBOP's Residential Reentry Management Branch, along with Dismas Charities, held an open house for the Honolulu DRC on January 10 and 11, 2024. During the two days, employees from the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu, the Mayor’s office, Senator Hirono's and Senator Schatz's offices, and the United States Probation and Pretrial Services Office were welcomed. The Honorable United States District Court Judge Leslie Kobayashi also attended. The open house allowed internal and external stakeholders an opportunity to learn more about the services offered at the DRC and provided by Dismas Charities.
The FBOP is committed to expanding residential reentry services in Hawaii, and this initiative marks a significant step in that direction.
