(BOP) - In support of the First Step Act, the Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) has identified a fourth location to undergo a mission change to better afford an opportunity for individuals in our custody to be housed within 500 miles of their release residence. This action will further alleviate the Bureau's growing need for low security beds. In addition to the three mission changes (FCI Memphis, FCI Estill, and FCI Estill Satellite Camp) announced earlier this month, FCI Oxford will transition from a Medium security male institution to a Low security male institution.
As we move forward with our core public safety mission of preparing individuals for successful reentry back into our communities, we will continue to make necessary changes to further our success in implementing the First Step Act.
