(BOP) - The nationwide lockdown has been lifted. Since February 7, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has continued to gather and monitor intelligence in order to return facilities to their appropriate modified operational status. This tiered approach allowed the BOP to maintain the secure and orderly running of our institutions and the continued safety of staff, inmates, and the public.

February 8, 2022 (BOP) - As previously reported, the decision to secure all Bureau of Prisons (BOP) institutions was intended to be a short term measure made in an abundance of caution to ensure safety and security within our facilities.
On Monday, February 7, 2022, after gathering and monitoring intelligence, the BOP made a determination to return select facilities to the appropriate modified operational status. As part of a tiered response, additional facilities will return to the appropriate operational status as intelligence permits.

February 1, 2022 (BOP) - In an abundance of caution, following an incident at one of our institutions, on Monday, January 31, 2022, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) secured all institutions nationwide. This temporary security measure is to ensure the good order of our institutions. It is anticipated it will be short-lived and that operations will be restored to their prior status as soon as practical. The BOP will continue to monitor events carefully and will adjust operations accordingly as the situation evolves. For safety and security reasons, the BOP does not elaborate on specific security procedures.
