(BOP) - The Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) volunteer program is based on the belief that society is a better place when we offer each other a helping hand. Volunteers from the community collaborate with highly trained, passionate staff in a safe environment to share their knowledge and skills with people 'on the inside.' The BOP is currently looking to connect new potential volunteers with opportunities in their local area, where they will help change lives and futures, gain unforgettable and rewarding experiences, and help reduce recidivism in their communities.
Dan Struble, a longtime volunteer, says sometimes he's asked by friends, family, staff, and even incarcerated individuals why he volunteers. "My answer is that I likely get as much out of it as do the people I see there," he explains. "We are often unaware how the simple act of being present to others has the potential to turn a life around — it can be a life-enriching experience for all involved."
Are you ready to change lives? The BOP is looking for volunteers who have experience in a variety of areas, such as mechanics, plumbing, general education, business literacy, mental health support, and more. Together, we can make a difference in people's lives, build safer and stronger communities, and leave a legacy of good.
A new volunteer recruitment management system, Inside Influence, has been created to help attract volunteers from the community to work with BOP staff and expand our ability to deliver quality programs as mandated by the First Step Act (FSA). Inside Influence allows prospective volunteers to learn more about the BOP's Volunteer program, search for current volunteer opportunities and apply online. Visit Inside Influence and apply today!
