All of the affected institutions are being assessed for possible damage.
Institutions continue to have adequate supplies of food and water for inmates and staff. If needed, additional resources (including staff) will be routed to areas with the most significant impact to assist with relief efforts and enable local staff to attend to personal affairs. August 26, 2020 (BOP) - The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is closely monitoring Hurricane Laura. As with any type of emergency situation, we carefully assess how best to ensure the safety of staff, inmates and the public. Several facilities, FCC Beaumont, FDC Houston, FCC Forrest City, FCC Oakdale, and FCC Pollock could be impacted by Hurricane Laura. The BOP's Central Office, South Central Regional Office, as well as all potentially affected institutions have opened their Emergency Operation Centers and are monitoring the situation.
All potentially affected Bureau institutions remain operational and have an adequate supply of food and water for both the inmates and staff. Supplemental resources and staff have been staged to assist with relief efforts and to enable local staff to attend to personal affairs and their families, if needed. Visiting at all institutions is still suspended due to modified operations related to COVID-19.
