VA Services for Incarcerated Veterans at all Institutions

Agreement between BOP and VA

Michael Carvajal becomes the eleventh Director of the Bureau of Prisons

(BOP) - The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have entered into an agreement allowing VA staff to visit all 122 institutions to outline services the VA can provide for over 11,000 incarcerated veterans in BOP custody and their dependents. While these visits are currently being provided by VA staff at some BOP facilities, this agreement ensures inmates at all facilities will have access to the important information and services offered by the VA. Specific services will include scheduling compensation examinations for delivery within facilities, explaining the requirements for receiving VA services, and sharing how benefits and services are coordinated in the VA.

The agreement is effective through March 5, 2025.
