Pharmacy Program Receives 2018 Pinnacle Award

(BOP) - The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation recently honored the Federal Bureau of Prisons with one of only three 2018 Pinnacle Awards. The Bureau received the award for the Voluntary Health Agencies, NonProfit Organizations, Associations, Government Agencies and Public/Private Partnerships category.

The Pinnacle Awards recognize contributions to health care quality through the medication use process. The Bureau was honored for their approach to assisting patients and their caregivers with achieving better outcomes from their medications. Specifically, APhA they recognized the Bureau Pharmacy programs for their cutting-edge work that promotes patient-centered results, embraces an interdisciplinary team medicine model, and views pharmacists as healthcare providers and equal partners in the healthcare team.

Captain A. Martin Johnston, Director of Pharmacy Programs, accepted the award on behalf of the Bureau of Prisons at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on September 17, 2018. Health Services Division (HSD) Assistant Director Dr. Deborah Schult, Senior Deputy Assistant Director RADM Chris Bina, Medical Director Dr. Jeffery Allen and Chief of Clinical Pharmacy Programs RADM Ty Bingham attended the ceremony along with other HSD staff and family members.
