Routine Surveillance Averts Possible Violence

Allenwood Staff Alert New York Law Enforcement Of School Plot

Routine Surveillance Averts Possible Violence

(BOP) - LSCI Allenwood Senior Officer Specialist Ryan Hays recently helped alert authorities of a potential murder of a youth in Rochester, NY. On April 5, during routine monitoring of inmate phone conversations, Hays monitored two calls placed by an inmate discussing a possible hit on a student at a Rochester, NY school. Hays immediately contacted Special Investigative Services Lt. Rob White, who listened to the recorded calls and determined the inmate was trying to stop a hit on a student. Allenwood staff member, Kathie Clouser, Special Investigative Support Technician, immediately called the Rochester police informing them of the plot and provided details learned during the calls. In less than two hours, Lt. White was notified that outside law enforcement had recovered a handgun on school grounds in the location the inmate described.

"Senior Officer Specialist Ryan Hays' swift actions in reporting the incident saved a child's life, with the potential to save other lives, as the incident was to take place on school grounds. Officer Hays did an outstanding job," said Warden Kathy P. Lane. Northeast Regional Director Michael Carvajal commented that this is "an example of Correctional Excellence and everything great about the Bureau of Prisons and our staff."
