(BOP) - The Evidence Recovery Team (ERT) at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners (USMCFP) located in Springfield, Missouri, like those at other BOP facilities, collaborates with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other local law enforcement agencies to ensure the successful prosecution of crimes occurring in and on the grounds of federal prisons.
National ERTs methodically preserve crime scenes, recover evidence and process crime scenes, including those resulting from staff assaults, attempted homicides, unexplained deaths, and suicides. Team members at Springfield receive training in standardized collection techniques, documentation techniques, fingerprint collection, photography, and sketch documentation. The Springfield ERT also receives training annually from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Evidence Response Team in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Springfield team's ability to effectively collaborate with the FBI, the United States Attorney's Office and various law enforcement entities is instrumental to the successful prosecution of crimes committed within the Bureau of Prisons and contributes to the safety and security of the inmates, staff, and the public.
