FCI Aliceville Struck by Tornado

(BOP) - On February 2, 2016, Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Aliceville, Alabama, was struck by a tornado. There were no injuries to staff or inmates. The Administration building suffered damage and is running on generator power, however all of the inmate housing units are powered and running on the institution's normal power. One inmate housing unit had water damage through the roof. Assessment of the damage is ongoing. The tornado swept through a rural Pickens County neighborhood and the National Weather Service reported severe structural damage to homes, trees, and churches.

The Institution Command Center has been activated as well as the Regional Command Center. The community is safe and emergency procedures have been put in place.

FCI Aliceville is a low security female institution and houses 1,849 inmates.
