Director Samuels Hosts Justice Roundtable Meeting

(BOP) - On November 13, 2015, Director Samuels hosted a Justice Roundtable Meeting with external stakeholders at Central Office. Several members of the Bureau Executive Staff participated in the meeting along with representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU); National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Legal Defense Fund (NAACP LDF); Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights; National Association of Social Workers; Open Society Foundation; National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Task Force; National Church of Scientology; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; and other external stakeholders.

These meetings are a continuation of Director Samuels’ efforts to enhance transparency in the agency and establish relationships with important stakeholders. The 90 minute meeting included discussion of vocational training and literacy programs for inmates, community-based reentry services, obtaining identification and social security cards, and Amendment 782 of the United States Sentencing Guidelines. The work that these non-governmental organizations do in the community supports the mission of the Bureau of Prisons.
