(BOP) - The Bureau of Prisons (BOP), in accordance with the Federal Communications Commission, has now lowered the rate that inmates in BOP facilities pay for their direct dial long distance calls. Through phone contact, inmates are able to maintain or develop their relationships with their children, family, and friends. These relationships are important to an individual’s reentry success, and the BOP remains committed to providing opportunities for inmates to maintain positive relationships with their family and friends.

Effective February 10, 2014, the BOP calling rates are as follows:

Call Type Per minute rate
Direct Dial - Local $0.06
Direct Dial - Long Distance $0.21
Direct Dial - Canada $0.35
Direct Dial - Mexico $0.55
Direct Dial - International $0.99
