(BOP) The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) conducted a multi-agency task force operation at FCI Bennettsville, South Carolina, from August 3–6, 2026, to remove contraband and reinforce institutional safety and security.
The Southeast Regional Office and the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General led the operation, with support from the BOP’s National Gang Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the District of South Carolina United States Attorney’s Office. Additional assistance was provided by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division K-9 Units and Chesterfield and Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Units.
Teams recovered electronic devices, drugs, homemade weapons, and gang-related intelligence across various areas of the institution. Forty inmates were transferred to other facilities in the Southeast Region as part of follow-up actions. Partner agencies continue to assess the intelligence gathered to support next steps.
This joint effort underscores the BOP’s ongoing collaboration with oversight and law enforcement partners to address contraband threats and promote safe and secure correctional environments.
