BOP Participates in DOJ Kids Day 2025

Interactive exhibit gives DOJ children a hands-on look at life in corrections.

(BOP) - On June 27, 2025, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) proudly participated in this year’s Kids Day event at the Department of Justice’s RFK Main Justice Building—an annual celebration designed to give children and grandchildren of DOJ employees a behind-the-scenes look at their family’s work and the mission of justice.

The event opened in the Great Hall with remarks from Attorney General Pamela Bondi, followed by a series of interactive exhibits presented by various DOJ components—including ATR, DEA, FBI, USMS, USTP, and the BOP. DOJ-sponsored child development center, Just Us Kids, also joined in the festivities.

Throughout the day, young attendees enjoyed a themed scavenger hunt, trivia games, a mock trial experience, and a sweet ice cream finale. The spirit of the day was rooted in connection, learning, and appreciation for the work done across the Department.

The BOP exhibit was a standout experience, combining hands-on learning with informative demonstrations. Highlights included:

  • Types of Restraint Equipment – Safe, supervised demos of handcuffs, leg irons, martin chains, locks, and soft restraints, with explanations of how these tools are used to protect staff and individuals in custody.
  • Locks and Keys Display – Kids examined a range of security locks and keys, and some even tested their matching skills in a timed lock-and-key activity that highlighted the precision required in corrections environments.
  • Corrections Tools and Gear – From trying on protective vests and helmets to handling communication devices, children got a glimpse into the daily tools of corrections professionals. A photo station with props like badges, radios, and shields offered a fun takeaway moment.

This year’s “Heroes of Justice” theme resonated throughout the day, reinforcing the dedication and courage of the many professionals who serve in law enforcement and corrections.

Kids Day 2025 was a tremendous success, and the BOP was honored to help inspire the next generation with an engaging, educational, and meaningful experience.
