New Phone Scams Impacting Incarcerated Individuals

(FBOP) - The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) has been alerted of a scam impacting incarcerated individuals and their families where callers are identifying themselves as FBOP employees to secure money for community placement services. The FBOP will not contact individuals to request personal information or money.

Also, there appear to be other scams affecting incarcerated individuals and their families. Specifically, callers are identifying as "Federal Bureau of Prisons Reentry Division Services" to gain personal information or money for early release and/or community placement services.

Individuals who are contacted by persons purporting to be employees of the FBOP requesting money and/or compensation should report these calls to the Federal Trade Commission online, https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/, or by phone at 1-877-382-4357 (9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.).
