(BOP) - The Bureau of Prisons is pleased to announce its participation in a new information sharing initiative, the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN). The HSIN provides intelligence stakeholders with a secure platform for effective, efficient and timely collaboration and the sharing of information, data and products with their international, federal, state, local, territorial/tribal and private sector partners. The Bureau's Counter Terrorism Branch, within the Correctional Programs Division, now has access to a centralized and simplified online network where advisories, intelligence summaries, and release rosters are shared and disseminated.
This initiative highlights the Bureau's proactive efforts in recognition of the increased number of releasing domestic and international terrorist inmates and the important role the agency plays in successful reentry efforts, while ensuring safer communities. The continued intelligence sharing amongst a greater law enforcement audience also serves to highlight the important work of the Bureau's Counter Terrorism Unit and the Special Investigative Services offices in our 122 institutions nationwide.
