(BOP) - The Bureau of Prisons will issue cut/puncture resistant gloves to all institution staff for additional protection during searches of inmates' housing units, work areas, and common areas of any institution, regardless of security level. The gloves are considered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); they meet national and international standards to help prevent cuts and punctures, and they must be worn as prescribed in the policy issued today.
Given the unpredictable nature of our work (staff could be called upon to engage in search activities at any time) staff must have their gloves with them and readily available at all times.
The partnership between labor and management in the Bureau of Prisons continues to enhance the safety and security of staff, inmates and the public.
