(BOP) – The Bureau of Prisons recently began offering female inmates at 14 facilities a new opportunity to maintain contact with their friends and family.
The Trust Fund Limited Inmate Computer System (TRULINCS) Video Service provides virtual face to face video sessions with approved contacts in the community. The inmates enjoy being able to "see" their loved ones more often. One inmate wrote a thank you note to staff saying she felt like she had just been given a 25 minute furlough. Another inmate was able to communicate with a loved one who is currently living in Germany. Many inmates have been able to help their children with homework and watch them practicing musical instruments or dance routines through the video service. Plans are underway to expand this program to male facilities.
