Bureau of Prisons Selects Deputy Director

(BOP) - On October 31, 2014, Director Charles E. Samuels, Jr., announced the selection of Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Louis "Ike" Eichenlaub, as Deputy Director for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Mr. Eichenlaub has spent more than 28 years working for the Bureau of Prisons; beginning his career in the Office of Research and Evaluation in Washington, DC. He held numerous positions of increasing responsibility including Executive Assistant at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Rochester, Minnesota; Associate Warden at FMC Lexington, Kentucky; and Warden at the Federal Correctional Institutions in Milan, Michigan, and Marianna, Florida, before being selected five years ago to lead the Mid-Atlantic Region.

All of Mr. Eichenlaub's varied experiences in the Bureau will serve him well as he assumes the critical role of Deputy Director; in particular, he has a proven track record as a team player and an understanding of the need to preserve core values, while stimulating innovation and improvement.

Mr. Eichenlaub received a Bachelor's Degree from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland.

On the selection of Mr. Eichenlaub as Deputy Director, Director Samuels stated: "I am looking forward to continue working with Ike in his new role as Deputy Director. He has many years of exemplary leadership experience and a proven track record of working successfully with staff to support the Bureau's overall mission."
