(BOP) - Recently, the National Corrections Academy (NCA) in Aurora, Colorado, and the Bureau of Prisons' Staff Training Academy (STA) in Glynco, Georgia, underwent initial accreditation audits by the ACA (November 2013 and February 2014, respectively). This was the first time accreditation audits have been performed for BOP training facilities.
Both Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Training Academies achieved scores of 100% during their recent audit by the American Correctional Association (ACA); the auditors recommended accreditation for both training centers.
The ACA is the oldest and largest international correctional association in the world. The ACA performs rigorous audits done by professionals who work in the corrections industry; there is no affiliation with the Bureau. The audit teams are selected by the ACA and the audits are conducted using nationally accepted standards. During audits, the teams review and inspect policy, procedures, practice, curriculum development; training requirements, and health and safety issues.
The ACA Auditors were impressed with the training offered to BOP employees and enthusiastically recommended both academies to be scheduled for the ACA conference panel hearings to receive their final accreditation.
