2026 Correctional Workers Week Memorial Service Video

Highlights from the May 5th service now available

(BOP) - On May 5, 2026, during Correctional Workers’ Week, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) honored the agency’s 27 fallen heroes at a memorial service held at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. This year’s theme, One Mission, Many Heroes, recognized that heroism takes many forms, carried out by individuals from different backgrounds and roles who gave their lives in service. A video of the Memorial Service is available at the top of this page.

Director William K. Marshall III delivered the ceremony’s commemoration and paid tribute to Supervisory Correctional Systems Specialist (SCSS) Marc Fischer, who was recognized at last year’s memorial service as the Bureau’s 27th fallen hero. This year, SCSS Fischer was formally honored with the official addition of his name to the Memorial walls. Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald represented the Department of Justice as the event’s guest speaker.

The ceremony included heartfelt remarks, musical tributes, and the posting of colors by the FCI Cumberland Honor Guard. A large gathering of Central Office staff, BOP leadership, and invited guests joined together in solemn remembrance.
