(BOP) - On May 6, 2025, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP or Bureau) held its annual Correctional Workers’ Week Memorial Service at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., honoring twenty-seven correctional workers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Director William K. Marshall III paid tribute to Supervisory Correctional Systems Specialist Marc Fischer, recognizing his induction into the distinguished ranks of BOP fallen heroes. He also marked the 50th anniversary of Senior Officer Specialist Donald F. Reis' tragic death and honored the service of Senior Officer Specialist Louis Pepe, who endured a life-altering attack but remained a symbol of resilience.
The ceremony featured heartfelt remarks, musical tributes, and the posting of colors by the FCI Cumberland Honor Guard. Bureau personnel, Central Office staff, and invited guests gathered in solemn remembrance to honor the sacrifices made by correctional workers in service to our country.
