About
        Regional Offices

The Bureau of Prisons has six regional offices that directly oversee the operations of the facilities within their respective regions of the country.

Regional office staff include a Regional Director and Deputy Regional Director, as well as administrators in such areas as human resource management, education, health services, financial management, correctional services/programs, psychology services, chaplaincy services, facilities development and operations, legal services, computer services, inmate systems, safety, food service, and community corrections.

Regional staff maintain close contact with facility staff with respect to all facets of Bureau operations. For example, they provide management and technical assistance to facility and community corrections personnel. They also conduct workshops, conferences, and specialized training programs; give technical assistance to state and local criminal justice agencies; and contract to provide offender placement in residential re-entry centers.
